Charleston golf
Charleston is recognized as the home of the first American golf course by no less an authority than GOLF Magazine. The South Carolina Golf Club was established in 1786 at Harleston Green in the Historic Charleston Peninsula. Now known as the Country Club of Charleston, it ultimately relocated to its present location on James Island.
Kiawah Island Resort’s famous Ocean Course designed by Pete Dye debuted in 1991 by hosting the Ryder Cup Matches. The Senior PGA Championship was held there in 2007 and Kiawah will host the PGA Championship in 2012. The Daniel Island Club’s Ralston Creek course designed by Rees Jones currently hosts the season ending event on the Nationwide Tour.
Charleston golf courses offer extraordinary variety and challenge and the greater Charleston area is ranked in the top 40 international golf destinations by Golf Digest.
